Director’s Desk (November 23, 2015)

Fellow RCCESI Research Associates: I trust that everyone has had the chance to recharge and gather more academic energies during the APEC break. I trust that amidst the Paris bombings and protests against Lumad killings, everyone took time to reflect on the deep intricacies of these events shaping the contours of country's fate, not only in the socio-political and economic-religious terms but more so, in the ways we treat this delicate matter as an academic subject matter. May our world be at PEACE in the real sense of the word and of the…continue reading →

Affirmation and Becoming In this RCCESI e-news issue 8, I highlight the recent work of our fellow research associate, Paulo Bolaños, an expert in the field of Philosophy extraordinaire! Over the number of years, he led UST's Department of Philosophy with practical vision to truly making his discipline what it has come to be a Center of Excellence with a CHEDrecognized academic journal, KRITIKE, as its venue for academic articulations. I AFFIRM the publication of Paolo's work by Cambridge Scholars Publishing as a testament to the maturity of Philosophy discipline in our…continue reading →

Why our research matters Last Friday, September 11, 2015, I started a new journey with 45 Araling Panlipunan (AP) teachers from 16 selected schools of the Diocese of Antipolo to discuss about the Social Sciences courses for Grades 11 and 12. I felt a sense of responsibility to reveal what I know about the rationale and logic of these courses by sharing how we, from the Commission on Higher Education's (CHED) Technical Panel of Social Sciences and Communication, designed and crafted the "curriculum guides" (CGs) that DepEd requested from us to produce. What…continue reading →

Exciting research days ahead My dearest fellow RCCESI research associates, I would like to thank everyone who submitted full research proposals recently. This gives me an opportunity to convene a core group among us representing each RIG to study and produce working proposal templates (specific to each discipline), and guidelines (on budget, doing fieldwork, research assistants' matters, etc.). Outputs of this discussion would be part of the manual of operations our center is preparing as we transition into becoming two centers next year. We started this initiative through human resource workshop with our…continue reading →

Mapagpalang araw po sa lahat! Let this issue be a special edition devoted to remembering our 2015 RCCESI Planning Workshop last July 1618, 2015. Most of us joined the planning workshop at Room 404, TARC, which generated both old and new insights about our disciplinal spaces in our center. The presence and inputs of Ma'am Maribel encouraged openness about our varied situations and contexts that shaped our workshop discussions throughout the day. I felt a deep sense of commitment amongst many of us, and it seems that renewed path towards developing a more…continue reading →
